From the quiet shores below Alfa-Mar, early risers are often rewarded with a magical sight — pods of dolphins gliding through the morning light. This article celebrates the natural beauty and marine diversity that make our coastal community unique.

A Morning Encounter with Dolphins and the Mediterranean Ecosystem

Alfa-Mar is appreciated for its secluded coastal area and the tranquility it brings. This tranquility allows early risers to witness wonderful phenomena.

Every dawn, as the sun begins to gently illuminate the Mediterranean, the coastal strip that connects Salobreña with Almuñécar comes alive in a very special way.

Around seven in the morning, it is not uncommon to see pods of dolphins approaching the shore, swimming in groups and breaking the surface of the water with elegant and playful movements. These cetaceans, a symbol of intelligence and freedom, find these nutrient-rich waters an ideal environment for feeding and moving.

Along with them, it is possible to discover the presence of other marine species that are part of the local ecosystem. The most common fish, such as horse mackerel, sea bass, and sea bream, coexist with schools of anchovies, attracting both seabirds and the dolphins themselves. The underwater meadows of posidonia, essential for maintaining biodiversity, provide refuge for small crustaceans and mollusks that sustain the area’s food chain.

The calm of the morning, interrupted only by the sound of the waves and the occasional dolphin, makes this stretch of coast a privileged place to observe marine life in its most natural state. It is a reminder of the richness that the sea offers to those who know how to contemplate it with patience and respect.

Therefore, we wanted to spread the word about the great wealth that the Alfa-Mar area offers us, and one of its countless advantages.
