Urbanización Alfa-Mar was developed in 1974, with a total of 118 plots; there are currently 92 houses mostly built in the Mediterranean-Andalusian style, all with wonderful views of the sea.
It has a diverse community of residents comprised of many different nationalities, such as Spanish, English, Belgian, French, Danish, Swedish, German, Italian, American and Asian, among others. Granada is the capital of Granada Province and home to the Alhambra Palace, whereas Málaga is the capital of Málaga Province and birth place of Pablo Picasso.
Alfa-Mar is conveniently located, approximately a ten minute drive to the nearest towns of Salobreña and Almuñecar and a twenty minute drive to Motril and La Herradura. All four local towns offer beautiful beaches lined with ‘Chiringuitos’ (beachfront restaurants), where local tapas and drinks are served. Both Salobreña and Almuñécar boast historic Moorish castles, La Herradura has an historic coastal defense fortress, and Motril offers an 18-hole golf course with a golf academy and restaurant. Alfa-Mar is also about one hour away from the white villages of the Alpujarras in the Sierra Nevada mountain range and a little more than one hour from the Tabernas Desert and Almería, the capital of Almería Province.
For shopping enthusiasts, the Nevada shopping mall is 45 minutes away to the north in Granada, and El Ingenio shopping center is 35 minutes to the west in Velez Málaga. Along the way towards El Ingenio, the towns of Nerja on the coast and Frigiliana in the mountains (voted one of the ‘prettiest white villages of Spain’ by the Spanish Tourist Board) offer opportunities to shop for local artesanal wares, arts and crafts.
Alfa-Mar and its surroundings enjoy splendid views and various sports can be experienced within the general area, including: swimming, tennis, hiking, diving, skiing, etc. For hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers, the caves of Nerja are less than 30 minutes away and the spectacular Caminito del Rey is less than two hours away.
